Baobinga is one of the most respected names in the breakbeat scene, known for anthems as diverse as 'The Bashment Track' (one of the defining moments in 'tear-out' breakbeat, and a highlight of the huge-selling Freestyler's FabricLive CD), the Alter-Ego does Prince rocker 'Know Ya' (with 30Hz) on Supercharged, and the speed-garage-meets-breaks-in-a-techno-warehouse vibes of 'Shake Yer Head', on Aquasky's 777 imprint.
His productions with fellow mancunian I.D. have also been setting standards in breakbeat since their first release "The Feeling" (Hardcore Beats, 2004), which won single of the month in DJ Mag and Knowledge, and was snapped up by Electronic Arts for their two million selling 'FIFA Street 2' game. With a string of remixes and releases lined up over the near future, including collaborations with Tayo, the next installment in the acclaimed Hardcore Beats mix CD series, and an artist album for Fat!, their versatility and popularity is not in question.
The latest stage in their musical evolution is the 'Big Monster' project on Fat Records, which launched in 2006 with the epic 'Rite Of Passage' and which won them immediate acclaim from across the scene for their innovative use of emotive techno and house influences. It resulted in one of the biggest singles of the year - "The Machine", which was included on the Stanton Warriors' FabricLive CD – and one of the biggest remixes too: their massive mix of 'Soundgal' by Ben and Lex, which became almost ubiquitous in the latter half of the year. Refusing to limit themselves to just one sound, the pair maintained their presence across the all areas of the scene with the grimey 'Stompin' on Vertical Sound, which was immediately signed to Max Power's Booty Bass compilation.
Already, 2007 looks set to see a further increase in the profile of this hard-working pair. As of mid-Februrary, they have already seen the next Big Monster single for Fat! licensed to Krafty Kuts' forthcoming Fabric Live CD, finished remixes for Spinout and Atomic Hooligan's Menu Music label, and been selected to DJ at the international breakbeat awards at Fabric - with Radio 1 broadcasting their set worldwide. In the meantime tunes such as 'Hood Thang' continue to break new ground in breakbeat - and beyond! Baobinga's breakstep alias Pablo Beatz continues to develop a distinctive underground niche, while regular gigs at legendary venues such as Ministry of Sound and The End in London, Babyface in China and 1015 in San Francisco are spreading their unique sound across the globe. Their growing reputation as some of the most innovative and versatile performers in dance music is justly deserved.
