One of the most versatile producers and DJs operating in the dance music field at the moment, Baobinga's profile has steadily grown throughout the last 12 months. Whether in partnership with I.D. as Big Monster, or working with Lot49's 30Hz as The Body Snatchers, mixing up new ragga hybrids with Tayo for Soul Jazz, or producing solo on labels like Trouble & Bass and Mantra, a steady stream of releases have caught the attention of some of the top names in dance music, from Freq Nasty and Sinden to Annie Mac and Zane Lowe. Regular gigs at premium London venues such as Fabric (including a recent top-billing slot in Room 3 for DJ Hype's True Playaz night), remixes for big-dog labels and artists such as The Stanton Warriors, The Ragga Twins, Skint, Lot49, and Positiva, licenses to respected compilation series such as Fabric Live and Ministry of Sound 'Sessions', numerous 'tune of the month' reviews in the dance music press, placements in top-selling computer games and performances worldwide from Australia and New Zealand to Georgia, Russia and China - all point to the deep well of underground support Baobinga has built up from his base in Manchester, England.
Having recently released the album 'Big Monster' with I.D. on Fat! Records (rated as 'Album Of The Issue' in DJ Mag), Baobinga has been nominated as one of the top ten 'Players Of The Year' by iDJ and, together with I.D., has been profiled and interviewed for the highly respected Knowledge Magazine. Meanwhile, the debut album from The Body Snatchers ('Feeling Good, Looking Nice, Smelling Right') came out in June of this year, and has attracted huge support from Mickey Slim to Tim Westwood - iTunes USA picked the single 'Call Me' (featuring Sporty-O and Yolanda, of Massive Attack fame) to be their discovery download and featured the album on the front page of the iTunes store. MTV has been blazing the distinctive animated Body Snatchers' videos across Europe. And both Channel 5 and MTV's Dirty Sanchez have picked up The Body Snatchers' music, further spreading their unqiue 'acid-crunk' sound. Finally, Diplo's Mad Decent blog are currently hosting a firing mix from Baobinga - check out the 21 tracks of heat below.
With hook-ups already planned with vocalists such as Virus Syndicate, Spyda and Rubi Dan, and a full stack of unreleased dubs waiting to be unleashed on the world, 2009 is already shaping up nicely. So if you don't know, now you know.
