The Rogue Element is award-winning producer and DJ Ben Medcalf, originally hailing from Portsmouth on the south coast of England. After spending his formative years honing his skills on the drums, guitar and piano, Ben fell in love with electronic music upon first hearing The Chemical Brother's 'Dig Your Own Hole' in 1997 and has never looked back. He moved to London in 2000 and began learning the art of dance music production, and by 2002 had several releases under his belt on reputable labels such as Media Records and Milk n' 2 Sugars.
In 2004 he signed an album deal with the reputable and eclectic Exceptional Records label. His first three singles on Exceptional all received widespread acclaim from the breakbeat community and also enjoyed notable support from Radio 1 and Xfm. After consolidating his initial success with his scintillating debut album 'Rogue Rock' in 2005, TRE soon completed his rapid ascent from newcomer to major player in the breakbeat scene by winning 'Best Breakthrough Producer' and claiming the titles for 'Best Producer' and 'Best Remix' in 2006.

Since then, The Rogue Element has become synonymous with exciting, cutting-edge electronic music. He has performed at major venues on every continent and has remixed dozens of top-level artists including The Crystal Method, Stanton Warriors, Fatboy Slim and Noisia. His reputation for first-rate production has led to a separate career as a mix engineer for a host of high profile dance music artists and he is a guest lecturer on various prominent music courses.
2007 and 2008 has seen TRE develop his sound and create a uniquely idiosyncratic blend of techno, breakbeat, and electro, a direction which has led to recent acclaim and support from such varied luminaries as Deadmau5, James Zabiela, Etienne de Crecy, Audiojack, Meat Katie, James Lavelle, DJ Hell, Autokratz and the Japanese Popstars. Recent months have also witnessed his establishment of Disco of Doom with Tom Real, a project which incorporates DJing, production and a radio show on the uber-hip on-demand station Samurai FM.
